Computer requirements

CBCTHub processes DICOMs locally in your browser using WebAssembly, without sending raw images to the server. This brings privacy and speed, but means the computer does the heavy lifting — so requirements matter.

Minimum (works, but tight)

  • RAM: 8 GB
  • CPU: Intel i3 (8th gen) / AMD Ryzen 3 / Apple M1 or better
  • Storage: 2 GB free for browser cache
  • OS: Windows 10 (1903+), macOS 11 Big Sur+, modern Linux
  • Connection: 5 Mbps stable download
NotaWith these minimums you can view a standard CBCT (small FOV). For large volumes or 3D View, upgrade specs.

Recommended (comfortable)

  • RAM: 16 GB
  • CPU: Intel i5 (10th gen+) / AMD Ryzen 5 / Apple M1 Pro or better
  • GPU: modern integrated or dedicated with WebGL 2.0 support
  • Storage: 5 GB free + SSD (not HDD)
  • Connection: 25 Mbps or more
  • Display: 1080p minimum. For fine diagnosis, calibrated monitor.

With this setup the viewer is smooth even with high-resolution volumes, fast 3D View and dual comparator.

Optimal (intensive professional use)

  • RAM: 32 GB or more
  • CPU: recent Intel i7/i9 / AMD Ryzen 7+ / Apple M3 Max
  • GPU: dedicated (NVIDIA RTX, AMD Radeon RX) or Apple M-series
  • NVMe SSD for file load speed.
  • Calibrated 4K monitor for fine radiologic diagnosis.
TipIf your work is 100% digital radiology, invest in a good monitor before anything else. Diagnostic quality depends more on how you see the image than on CPU GHz.

What if I have an old laptop?

CBCTHub can work on older hardware, with limitations:

  • Volumes > 500 MB may be slow or crash the browser.
  • 3D View may be very slow or unstable without WebGL 2.0.
  • Close all other tabs while using the viewer.
  • Consider using Chrome or Edge — they're the most efficient with WebAssembly.
CasoMinimum setup for an independent radiologist

If you're building your setup from scratch on a budget:

1. Laptop: any recent laptop with i5 + 16 GB RAM + SSD (Lenovo IdeaPad, HP Pavilion, MacBook Air M1/M2).

2. External monitor: 27″ 1440p IPS for diagnosis (Dell U2723QE, BenQ PD2705U).

3. Connection: fiber optic 100 Mbps or more.

4. Mouse with smooth scroll: makes a difference scrolling through slices — Logitech MX Master.
