Anonymize the patient

There are cases where you want to show an exam without exposing patient data: talks, conferences, public second opinion, website embed, teaching material. CBCTHub lets you anonymize on the fly without modifying the original DICOM.

NotaAnonymization in CBCTHub is visual: it hides name, birth date and other identifying data from the display, but the original DICOM file keeps its metadata intact on the server.

Anonymize from the viewer

In the viewer, click on the patient dropdown (top left, where the name appears).

Activate the Anonymize toggle.

Immediately the name, birth date and tax ID are replaced with “Patient” + a generic identifier. Clinical data remains the same.

To disable: return to the dropdown and uncheck the toggle. Data goes back to normal.

Embed anonymized by default

When you embed an exam on another website via iframe (Embed tab of the Share modal), CBCTHub applies anonymization automatically. This avoids leaking sensitive data on external sites where you do not control the context.

If you need the embed to show the name (specific case for your own internal portal), you can change that setting on the share modal.

Anonymized Live session

Live sessions (broadcast with QR) are also anonymized by default. Attendees who scan the QR do not see the patient name — only the exam.

ImportanteVisual anonymization is not HIPAA de-identification. If you need a fully de-identified DICOM for research or publication (with no identifiable metadata even in the file), you have to process it with dedicated tools (DICOM Anonymizer, RSNA CTP). CBCTHub does not export de-identified DICOMs.

CasoCase for a conference talk

1. Open the exam in the viewer.

2. Activate anonymization from the patient dropdown.

3. Take captures of the relevant slices (the capture respects anonymization).

4. Use those captures on your PowerPoint without risk.

5. If you want to show the viewer live during the talk, use Live mode — the QR broadcasts anonymized automatically.
