What is MiPACS?

MiPACS Dental Enterprise Solution from Medicor Imaging is a dental PACS. Medicor states it is deployed in the customer's own environment, keeping infrastructure and imaging data under customer control, with a Windows Enterprise Viewer, an HTML5 web viewer that needs no installation, and a storage server on Windows Server with Microsoft SQL Server. It claims 100% DICOM 3.0 and DICOMweb compliance and cites an installed base of 75+ dental schools, 2,000+ DSO clinics and 140+ VA facilities.

What MiPACS does well

  • Standards compliance is its strongest suit: 100% DICOM 3.0 and DICOMweb, HL7 interfaces and Modality Worklist
  • You keep the infrastructure and the data — a real requirement for a VA facility or a dental school
  • Integrates with institutional EHRs including Epic, Cerner, axiUm, Dentrix and Open Dental
  • The HTML5 web viewer needs no install and works in Safari, so a Mac can view
  • Referring physicians access from a browser with permissions scoped to their own patients
  • Documented implementation services and an average 30-day go-live

Things to weigh before picking MiPACS

  • It is not SaaS: the standard deployment runs on your Windows Server with Microsoft SQL Server, which is real infrastructure and real cost
  • Capture and the full Enterprise Viewer are Windows applications; the browser is for viewing
  • Medicor publishes no pricing or licensing model — everything routes to sales
  • On CBCT specifically: MiPACS documents storing and distributing cone-beam studies in DICOM, and its own compatibility list has a separate "Third Party 3D Viewers" category — we found no public documentation of native 3D volume rendering, so we do not claim it either way
  • It is built for institutions. For a single imaging center or a private practice it is a heavy purchase
  • Public review volume is very small — 3 reviews on Capterra, 1 on G2 — so treat the ratings as anecdote, not evidence

They can live together

If your institution already runs MiPACS as its archive, CBCTHub is not a replacement for it and does not try to be — it has no DICOMweb, no HL7 and no modality worklist. What it adds is the reading and sharing experience on top: pull the DICOM out, and the referring dentist gets a browser viewer with measurements, panoramic reconstruction and 3D, branded as you.

FAQ

Is CBCTHub a PACS?

No. It stores studies and shares them, but it does not do DICOMweb, HL7 or modality worklist, and it does not aim to be the institutional archive of record.

Does MiPACS render CBCT in 3D?

It documents storing and distributing cone-beam studies in DICOM, and its published compatibility list includes a separate category of third-party 3D viewers. We did not find public documentation of native 3D rendering, so we do not state it either way — ask Medicor.

Can I use both?

Yes. Both read standard DICOM. Keep MiPACS as the archive and use CBCTHub as the viewer you send outward.

Do I need a server for CBCTHub?

No. There is nothing to deploy and nothing to license per workstation.
