How to Export DICOM Files from Morita CBCT Scanners (Accuitomo & Veraview)

Morita CBCT Systems and i-Dixel Software
J. Morita manufactures some of the most respected CBCT units in dentistry, including the 3D Accuitomo (known for its high resolution and small FOV capabilities) and the Veraview X800 (a versatile unit combining panoramic, cephalometric, and CBCT imaging). Both systems use Morita's i-Dixel software for image acquisition, viewing, and management.
Exporting DICOM files from i-Dixel allows you to share scans with specialists, use third-party planning software, or upload to cloud-based viewers for remote access.
Exporting DICOM from i-Dixel
Follow these steps to export CBCT DICOM data from i-Dixel:
- Step 1: Open i-Dixel and navigate to the patient's record.
- Step 2: Select the 3D (CBCT) dataset you want to export from the image list.
- Step 3: Go to File → Export or use the export icon in the toolbar.
- Step 4: Select DICOM as the export format. i-Dixel supports DICOM 3.0 export.
- Step 5: Choose your export destination — local folder, USB drive, or DICOM server (PACS).
- Step 6: Configure export options (see below) and click Export.
i-Dixel Export Options
i-Dixel provides several export options that affect compatibility with third-party viewers:
- Slice thickness and spacing: You can typically choose the slice interval. For maximum compatibility, export with the native voxel size (e.g., 0.08 mm for Accuitomo high-res scans or 0.125 mm for standard scans).
- Export as multiframe or single-frame: Some i-Dixel versions offer both. Single-frame DICOM (one .dcm file per slice) has the broadest compatibility with third-party viewers.
- Anonymization: i-Dixel may allow you to remove patient identifying information during export. Check your version's documentation.
- DICOM tags: Ensure all standard DICOM tags are included (Patient Name, Study Date, Series Description, etc.) for proper organization in the receiving software.
Exporting to PACS (DICOM Send)
If your practice uses a PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), i-Dixel can send DICOM data directly via DICOM networking. Configure the PACS server as a DICOM destination in i-Dixel's network settings (you'll need the server's AE Title, IP address, and port number). This method is faster than file-based export for high-volume practices.
Troubleshooting Morita DICOM Export
- Export option not available: Some i-Dixel licenses restrict DICOM export. Contact your Morita representative to verify your license includes export functionality.
- Incompatible files: If exported DICOM files don't open in third-party software, try exporting as single-frame DICOM with standard slice thickness. Some viewers struggle with the very thin slices (0.08 mm) from Accuitomo high-res mode — try re-exporting at 0.125 mm or 0.25 mm spacing.
- Missing reconstruction data: i-Dixel can export raw CBCT volume data or reconstructed views (panoramic, cross-sections). For third-party use, always export the raw 3D volume — reconstructed views are not standard DICOM and may not be compatible.
Upload to CBCTHub
After exporting from i-Dixel, upload the DICOM folder to CBCTHub for instant cloud access. CBCTHub is fully compatible with Morita's DICOM output — whether from the compact Accuitomo or the versatile Veraview X800. Share a link with your referring dentist and they can review the scan in their browser immediately.
